About the Area

A scenic 3 ½ hour drive from Brisbane and 45 minutes by air, Hervey Bay on Queensland's Fraser Coast is an easily accessible holiday destination.

Famous for two popular tourist attractions, Fraser Island and humpback whales, thousands of tourists descend on this coastal town annually.

Hervey Bay is the primary launch point to Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island. Here you will experience this World Heritage listed site's beautiful lakes, forests, beaches and wildlife.

During whale watching season, Hervey Bay is taken over by visitors eager to catch a glimpse of a humpback whale. From late July through to November, Hervey Bay is one of the best places to view humpback whales on their annual migration with their calves.

The same calm water the humpback whales visit at Hervey Bay also offer ideal conditions for fishing, recreational boating, sailing, kayaking and swimming.

The Urangan Boat Harbour is Hervey Bay's meeting location for many aquatic activities including whale watching, passenger ferries, the barge to Fraser Island and fishing charters. Here you will also find various restaurants and cafes.

On The Esplanade you will experience the foreshore with its great walking tracks, cycle paths, picnic areas and play areas. Walking along The Esplanade you will also come across the Marina and the entry point to the botanical gardens.
